Noticing an unusual birthmark on the leg of her youngest daughter shortly after birth, the quest of a proper diagnosis began. After local medical providers could not assist in her daughter’s diagnosis, Katie continued to scour the internet and came across the CMTC page. Katie emailed the president to see about the family attending the July 2016 conference which would begin three days later. The great team of professionals at their first CMTC conference were able to confirm the CMTC diagnosis in the six-week-old and refer the oversight of care to a leading pediatric dermatologist close to home. The supportive team of CMTC families encouraged the whole Shafer family as they began their CMTC journey. Katie homeschools her four children and desires to help others receive the knowledge for which they are searching.
